- 17/12/07 - An interesting year for Apple
- With increased competition from their main competitor Creative,
and their award winning stone player. Apple had a total make
over of it's mp3 players in 2007. Whilst the main business
was in promoting the iPhone, which was sold in Apple's official
London store during the autumn months. But Apple did not let
their range of iPod
players get stuck in the mire. They totally redesigned
the nano so the dimensions are wider and the overall sturdiness
has been improved. It also incorporates increased video capabilities.
The iPod
touch was also launched to rave reviews, featuring the
same touch panel the iPhone has, a multi-touch display with
dimensions of 480-by-320-pixel resolution at 163 pixels per
inch. The only sticking point potential customers highlighted
was the lack of memory at 16GB.
- 06/12/07 - Apple Store to announce new stores worldwide including
Mexico
- The website was the first official Apple site to be launched.
But from 2006 onwards due to the unexpected phenomenon that
is the iPod Apple decided to build actual real life stores.
Currently they are planning three new stores for the UK. Most
will be directed to the South of England and London in particular.
The biggest store in square feet will be built at Westfield,
which is near Covent Garden. There are however rumours that
Apple may build a store in the north of England, but as of
yet no city has been announced. The chances are it will be
either Leeds or Manchester. Worldwide the hot spot currently
is South America, sales have exploded in this continent, and
stores will be built in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico during
2008.

I've been mulling over getting one of the new nano's with video
playback. I'm still using my 2nd generation classic iPod and it
feels about time for a change. My main question to any owners is
the build quality, how does it measure up to a classic iPod? I was
severely put off buying the first generation nano due to all the
complaints about surface scratching and flimsiness of the device.
Judging by the pictures I've seen the new one looks a lot more solid,
but it does seem to have lost it's visual appeal. The original nano
really caught my eye in the looks department, appearing somewhat
like a key card. The new one however looks more like a slim downed
classic iPod. With the touch taking over the mantle of the best
looking iPod.
