Short Bio: The Clash are one of rock's and punk's finest
ever bands. Their style is not as easily defined as some other punk
banks, due to the influence of ska, reggae and dub in their songs.
The breadth of their style, lyrics and the popularity of their music,
has usually led critics to rank The Clash as the best punk and rock
band of their period. London Calling, an album released in 1979,
is usually rated as their best. It is usually found in the list
of the best ever albums. Their other albums were The Clash, Give
'Em Enough Rope, Sandinista!, Combat Rock and Cut the Crap. The
band were a smash hit in the US. The Clash were the most successful
British band to tour the US around that period. The band began to
fall apart after the release of Combat Rock in 1982. The four primary
members of the band are usually noted as Joe Strummer, Paul Simonon,
Mick Jones and Nicky "Topper" Headon. There were other
artists that played in the band. Joe Strummer and Paul Simonon were
the only members to remain with the band from 1976-1986.
