Short Bio: Dr. Dre is one of the godfather's of rap, and
a primary force in the success of rap from the west coast of America.
He has been a member of two music groups, 'World Class Wreckin'
Cru' and 'N.W.A'. He is probably better known for his role in N.W.A,
a controversial group who were at the genesis of the gangsta rap
scene. Fu*k tha Police (single) was a worldwide hits for N.W.A.
As the name of the single would suggest, it caused alot of controversy.
Released at a turbulent time in LA, following the riots after the
Rodney King trial. N.W.A broke apart in the early 90's, and Dr Dre
began his solo career. 'The Chronic' was his debut album, it's an
album rated amongst the best rap albums ever released. It was released
on the Death Row Records label. A label founded by Dr Dre and Suge
Knight. Dr Dre left Death Row in 1996 to form his own label, Aftermath
Entertainment. The first album Dr Dre released on that label was
'Dr. Dre Presents the Aftermath'. The style of the album had moved
away from gangsta rap. Therefore it was deemed a failure by some
of his fans. Some people claiming Dre had gone 'soft'. It appears
that Dr.Dre realised his mistake and returned to gangsta rap and
form, with the album '2001', released in 1999. Since then Dr. Dre
has focused on production. His last album is rumoured to be 'Detox',
to be released in 2010.
