Short Bio: Green Day have been one of the most successful
modern punk rock bands. They began their playing days around the
Berkeley area of Northern California. Their first and most successful
album was Dookie, released in 1994. The album sold over twenty five
million copies worldwide. Their follow up albums did not sell anywhere
near that number, but were still a relative success. Insomniac (1995),
Nimrod (1997) and Warning (2000). American Idiot was released in
2004, and was Green Day's first album that began to match the critical
and sales success of Dookie. A politically charged album, it again
cemented Green Day as one of the most prominent rock bands globally.
The band's primary songwriter is Billie Joe Armstrong. He has stated
he has been influenced by English punk and rock bands, as well as
American ones.
Popular Songs: When I Come Around, Boulevard of Broken Dreams,
Longview, Basket Case.
