Short Bio: When people think of punk rock, the Sex Pistols
are usually the first band to come to mind. The band was formed
in 1975 and broke up in 1978. Those three years were a whirlwind
for the band, while many youngsters loved the band, there were many
people baying for their blood in the UK. The pressure of that, combined
with a turbulent American tour led to the band's breakup. The Sex
Pistols have reformed a few times since then, to play the odd concert
or small tour. But, those three years from 75-78 represent the band's
only creative period. In fact, they only released one studio album
'Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols', luckily it was
an all time classic. The group was managed by Malcolm McLaren, a
man who came to as much prominence as the band itself. In 1977 they
replaced their bassist, Glen Matlock with Sid Vicious. Vicious was
charged with the murder of Nancy Spungen (his girlfriend) in 1978.
However, he died of a drugs overdose in 1979. Along with Johnny
Rotten, Sid had become the face of the band. Even though it was
claimed he could not even play the guitar, his on-stage attitude
enraptured fans. His death, and the events surrounding the death
of Nancy Spungen, are now part and parcel of the legend of the Sex
Pistols.
