Short Bio: U2 were rated (globally) as the top earning artists
of 2010. The albums, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby, released in
1987 and 1991 respectively, has ensured the bands super-stardom
for a generation. They become, arguably, the biggest rock band to
spring from the 1980's era. The U2 sound was somewhat more conservative
than the excesses of eighties music, conforming more to standard
rock, with hints of punk, dance and alternative rock. To date, they
have sold over one hundred and fifty million records. They broke
into the American market, usually a primary goal of any successful
British or Irish band. In fact, they have won more Grammys (US national
academy music awards) than any other artist.. The band were a headline
act for Live Aid, and their lead singer, Bono, has been heavily
involved in many charity organisations. U2 continue to release hugely
successful albums and worldwide tours.
