News
- 08/10/07 - Woolworths to upgrade their supply chain for the
winter period
- After a review of last years Christmas period the Woolworths
management report noticed shortages of quite a few popular
items, most particularly toys, and popular music cd's like
Coldplay. The official site now stocks upto 200,000 products,
and to source this supply they are now going to use a distribution
system from "Manhattan Associates" who reside near
stoke-on-trent in the west midland of England.
- 12/09/07 - Woolworths to announce a small profit for 2007
- The embattled retail chain may have finally turned the corner,
and may raise hopes and expectations for continued restructuring
for 2008. They have always relied heavily on the entertainment
market, but because of music downloads it was becoming a reek
drag on turnover. The year of 2007 has shown an increase book,
DVD, books and video games, but the troublesome music sector
has shown no signs for improvement. Figures indicate that
Woolworths maybe better focusing on dvd/video games in the
future, and cut back on floor space for the CD charts. Woolworths
always gave a prime location in the stores for the top 40
cd singles and album charts. This may now be a mistake.

A friend said that woolies were now offering a download service,
I high tailed it onto the site when I got home. I spent at least
5 minutes trying to find out where the heck the downloads were.
I by chance clicked upon a banner which sent me to http://www.woolworthsdownloads.co.uk/
, a totally separate site. I was after "Magic" by Bruce
Springsteen, the price on the download site was £14.99, whereas
on the main site the CD was only £9.97 to have it shipped
to my home. Seems to me the site is very poorly updated, or Woolworths
have no real interest in promoting their download business. Firstly
it was next to impossible to find, then the prices seemed more,
which is insane considering the delivery cost, and the cost of the
materials required to make the CD, leaflet and case. I wont be going
back.
