Band Name: ABBA
Associated Bands, Previous Name(s): Hootenanny Singers, Hep
Stars
Members: Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny
Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus
Genre: Pop, Glam
Place of Origin: Stockholm, Sweden
Years Active: Eleven years, from nineteen seventy two till
nineteen eighty three.
Short Bio: ABBA came to fame with their winning performance
in the Eurovision song contest. The song was "Waterloo".
Their success in that competition is one of, if not, the only winner
acts to go on to worldwide success. The band was comprised of two
married couples, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, Benny
Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Both couples were divorced near
to the time that ABBA broke up. With total record sales numbering
nearly four hundred million, they are in the top five best selling
bands ever. Surprisingly, one of their least successful countries,
in terms of chart placement, was the USA. ABBA performed in English,
even though they were Swedish. The USA is the largest English speaking
market, if ABBA had had a similar chart placement, in the USA, as
in Europe, then we would probably be talking about the best selling
band ever.
Popular Songs: Money Money Money, Fernando, Dancing Queen,
Knowing Me Knowing You.
