Short Bio: The Beach Boys are often credited with being
the best ever American rock band. Their most successful album, 'Pet
Sounds', is often rated by musician's and experts as amongst the
best ever created. Brian Wilson was the songwriting genius of the
band, who under increasing pressure to improve upon 'Pet Sounds'
developed a mental illness. He was not able to complete the follow
up, 'Smile', until over thirty years later. Some people believe
the tipping point was the release of The Beatles 'Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band' album. Wilson and The Beatles had a friendly
rivalry around that time, both wishing to improve upon each other's
work. After hearing Sgt. Pepper's, apparently an attempt by the
Beatles to better 'Pet Sounds', Wilson canceled finishing 'Smile',
possible due to the fear he could not better Sgt. Pepper's. No matter
what the background rumours are, Wilson is noted as a genius, who
credited a unique harmonious sound at his peak.
Popular Songs: Surfin' Safari, Little Deuce Coupe, California
Girls, Good Vibrations.
