Short Bio: The Beatles are usually voted as the greatest
artists/band of the past century (popular music). Few bands or artists
can match their record sales, amount of number 1 hits, or the evolution
of their music from rock pop to psychedelic pop with tones of classical.
The Beatles were prolific song writers, tending to release an album
in each year, with each usually breaking new musical ground and
critical success. In the US, they are credited with leading 'The
British Invasion' of the early 1960's. Wherever the band went, they
were greeted with vociferous fans, usually compromising of screaming
teenage girls. The band stopped touring in 1966, a combination of
their music being drowned out by screaming fans and Lennon's claim
that the band were "more popular than Jesus now". Producer
George Martin and manager Brian Epstein are both credited with having
a huge influence on the band's work and their success.
Popular Songs: Love Me Do, Please Please Me, I Want to Hold
Your Hand, A Hard Day's Night.
